I purchased my Biomat directly from Richway and after about a year the control panel went haywire. The unit changes temperature all of the indicator lights turn on without pressing any buttons. The woman on the phone was condescending and rude, and it took about a week and a half to even get instructions. Now I have to send the control panel to Hawaii (on my dime, no prepaid label), and wait weeks for the replacement part before I have a functional mat again.

I bought a biomat in 2012. It worked great for relaxation/super deep sleep. I started sleeping on it every night. By the end of 2015, the plastic tubing had split apart. I managed to duck tape it back. However I noticed that the "amethyst" stones which kept leaking through were mixed with another cheap cardboard looking material. Finally the controller stopped working.

I have been using the mat for over a month now. I keep it on my bed under a memory foam pad. I love the way it warms me up without any hot or uncomfortable spots. I feel my joints are not as achy, my raynaud's happens less often. There is a calmness that comes over me while lying on the mat. I do try to meditate and calm myself to maximize its effectiveness but this is beyond that. Sore muscles dont stay sore as long. Wounds are healing faster. I just love this thing!

What Does Amethyst Do?

Amethyst main purpose for the mat is to generate far infrared waves. Although it does produce some negative ions, tourmaline is added into the mat to produce negative ions.

What is the Purpose of the Tourmaline Toca Layer?

The TOCA layer is a special ionized fabric that is powered by tourmaline. It produces 1500+ negative ions per square inch. With the addition on the TOCA layer the Biomat is able to produce more than x2 the amount of negative ions as it was before with only having amethyst.

Before buying, it is important to know that only the newer Biomat products contain the Tourmaline TOCA layer. Meaning that older Biomat products are only built with amethyst. The TOCA layer is included in the newer Biomat 7000mx, Biomat Mini and the amethyst tourmaline pillow.

Important to Note

When evaluating the warranty of the Biomat it is very important to review it in detail because they are a multi-level marking company and have many different vendors. Meaning, that the vendors are subject to change their warranty policy.

Biomat’s Warranty.

Richway International offers a 1 year full warranty and 3 year limited warranty for their Biomat products. This means that after the 1st year, any repairs or replacements for the mat will cost you a fee. You can see here their warranty, repair and replacement fees in detail.

After the 4th year is when repair fees start to get pricy compared to other far infrared devices such as the Healthy Wave Soft and Flexible.

Additionally, they charge a restocking fee of 20% of the original mat price.

Biomat’s Guarantee

As for the guarantee, Richway International only offers a 7 day full money back guarantee. As time goes on they provide: 70% after 8-14 days, 50% after 15-30days, and no refund after 31 days.

Certifications

The Biomat is not FDA approved but it is FDA cleared.

Being FDA cleared means that a company has filed a 510(K) Class form online. This is required for a new device from a medical device manufacturer.

Being FDA approved is completely different than cleared. To get FDA approved, a products would have to undergo rigorous testing and is typically set aside for higher risk products such as drugs.

Taking all things into consideration, the Biomat does make for a good far infrared device that was designed with a lot of care and consideration. Indeed, it is lacking features (like PEMF and photon therapy) that would increase its value in terms of additional therapies/healing properties.
