What is Reiki Therapy?

 Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. It was created by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Monk in the 20th century.

The word “Reiki” is a combination of two Japanese words: “rei,” which means “God’s wisdom,” or “the higher power,” and “ki,” which means “life force energy.” It is a way of guiding energy through out the body to promote self healing abilities.

The basic concept underlying Reiki is that the body has an energy field that is central to its health and proper functioning, and this energy travels in certain pathways that can become blocked or weakened.

Typically sessions last 60-90 minutes depending on your needs. At your first session you will meet you reiki practitioner, introduce yourselves and talk about your health/healing goals. 

During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hand either directly on you or just above you to start the healing process. This is done by using gentle hand movements to guide energy flow all over the body. Practitioners also use mental visualization to send healing energy to areas of the receiver’s body that need it.

Usually the session is done without talking and the practitioner will play soft music in the background to help with relaxation. 

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. The commonality between most people is that they feel deeply relaxed and replenished. 

There have been no reports of negative side effects to Reiki therapy. 

After your first session, most practitioners will recommend that you come back 3-4 more times within the same week period. 

Make sure to drink plenty of water to rehydrate after your session.
